According to a report, an IPL team owner close to top BCCI officials told Cricbuzz that Gambhir’s appointment is confirmed and an announcement will be made soon. A well-informed commentator mentioned that efforts are underway to bring Gambhir on board. The delay in the announcement suggests ongoing negotiations between Gambhir, the BCCI, and possibly other parties. The report also mentioned that Gambhir has already told his close friends that he wants to take over the position after Rahul Dravid. Even Shah Rukh Khan, who admires Gambhir for his success with KKR, knew about his intentions.
Gambhir was a key player behind KKR’s dominant IPL 2024 victory, where they defeated Pat Cummins’ Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final. The Purple and Gold Brigade, who won two IPL titles under Gambhir’s leadership between 2012 and 2014, topped the table after the league stage securing 20 points with a record-breaking net run rate of 1.428.
It’s important to note that Gambhir took five breaks to spend time with his family during the two-month IPL season. This means that balancing the prestigious head coach position could be challenging for the 42-year-old if he decides to take the job.
