Why This India vs Pakistan Clash Could Shock Everyone

When the Government of India did not allow the Indian team to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the ICC found a middle solution. All of India’s matches were moved to a neutral venue. As a result, India played every game in Dubai including the India vs Pakistan match.

This neutral venue gave India a big advantage. The Indian team did not have to travel at all. They stayed in one place and could focus only on practice, matches, and recovery. Meanwhile, other teams had to play most of their matches in Pakistan and then travel to Dubai to face India. This scheduling benefit played a role in India winning the ICC Champions Trophy for the third time. Many of their matches were quite one-sided.

This was not the first time a team received such an advantage in a tournament, but it was the first time it happened in an ICC event. Now, the situation seems to have changed and this time Pakistan may get a similar benefit.

Pakistan will play all of its matches in Sri Lanka during the T20 World Cup 2026. Although Sri Lanka is not technically a neutral venue, it is co-hosting the tournament along with India. For their match against Pakistan, India will have to travel to Sri Lanka, while Pakistan will already be settled there. This will be Pakistan’s first advantage.

Another important factor is the playing conditions. Indian pitches are usually batting-friendly, where high-scoring matches are common and Indian batters enjoy playing. Sri Lankan conditions are very different. The pitches there are slower, runs are harder to score, and spin bowlers play a much bigger role. The weather is also different, with a chance of rain on match days.

So far, Pakistan have played two matches in these conditions and won both, which shows that the environment suits them.

Lastly, although India has more experienced spin bowlers overall, they have less experience playing in Sri Lankan conditions compared to Pakistan’s spinners. India has mostly played with only one full-time spinner, Varun Chakravarthy. A sudden change in conditions could challenge Indian batters, who have mostly faced pace bowlers until now and may need to quickly adjust to spin-friendly conditions.

On the other hand, Pakistan played their two matches with just one main fast bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi. Even though they had another pace option in Faheem Ashraf, they relied heavily on spin, using spinners for around 16 overs in their games.

Pakistan also has strong batting depth, going down to number eight. They have three spin all-rounders; Nawaz, Shadab, and Saim Ayub, who can contribute with both bat and ball. Abrar Ahmed, Pakistan’s most experienced spinner, has not been faced much by Indian batters, and his economy rate against India is around 7.

Then there is Usman Tariq, who could become Pakistan’s surprise weapon against India. Indian batters have not faced him yet, and his bowling action is considered unusual. His performance against the USA has already created some concern in the Indian camp. At the same time, India’s top-order batters have not been in great form, and Abhishek Sharma has been dealing with a stomach infection and missed a match against Namibia.

Despite all these factors, one thing is clear, unlike many past encounters, this India vs Pakistan match is unlikely to be one-sided. It is expected to be a very competitive contest. Based on current analysis, conditions, and expert opinions, Pakistan may have a slight edge for now. The key question will be how well India adapts its batting and spin strategy to counter Pakistan’s strengths.
