Sunrisers Hyderabad Names Pat Cummins Captain for IPL 2024

The Sunrisers Hyderabad have named Pat Cummins as their captain for the upcoming IPL 2024 season, replacing Aiden Markram. This comes after a disappointing season for SRH in 2023, where they finished last in the points table.

Cummins, an Australian captain, was bought by SRH for a whopping ₹20.50 crore at the IPL 2024 auction by Franchise owner Kavya Maran. He is seen as a shrewd tactical mind and a born leader, and many believe he can turn around SRH’s fortunes.

SRH’s Struggles Under Previous Captains

SRH has been searching for a strong captain since the departure of David Warner in 2020. They have tried Kane Williamson, and Aiden Markram in the role, but none have been able to replicate the success of Warner.

Under Markram’s leadership in 2023, SRH lacked direction and consistency. The team often failed to chase down modest targets and their bowling attack lacked penetration.

Cummins’ Leadership Qualities

Cummins is known as one of the best fast bowlers ever in Test cricket and among the top ones of his time. He led Australia to win big tournaments like the ICC World Test Championship in 2021-23 and the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023.

Besides his bowling skills, he’s pretty good at batting too, especially towards the end of the lineup. He’s highly respected in the cricket world for his all-round abilities.

Can Cummins revive SRH’s fortunes?
