IPL 2025: Top 5 Potential Replacements for Injured Brydon Carse in SRH Squad
Due to a toe injury, Brydon Carse, an all-rounder from England, was ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. While this was a significant setback for England, it also raised concerns for his IPL team, Sunrisers Hyderabad. SRH bought Carse for ₹1 crore in the IPL mega auction for 2025. When he recovers, it is very uncertain whether he will be available for 22nd March 2025, if he will join in the middle of the IPL, or if he will miss the entire IPL season until it gets resolved. SRH might be considering potential replacement options to fill his role in the squad.
1. Michael Bracewell
Michael Bracewell isn’t a direct replacement for Carse because Bracewell is an all-rounder, and his dual skill set makes him a valuable asset. This Kiwi player is also a part-time off-spinner and delivers exceptional bowl with accurate lines and lengths, including the ability to turn the ball both ways, making him difficult to face for any batter from the opponent.
Bracewell’s batting ability is also another aspect that sets him as a replacement for the English all-rounder, providing depth to batting. He has shown in crucial matches in the past that he can play according to the situation—building an inning or accelerating when required. His recent form in the ICC Champions Trophy against Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India has been outstanding, with six wickets at an impressive average of 12.80 in just two matches.
2. Daryl Mitchell
Daryl Mitchell is another name that could be the perfect replacement. A seasoned batting all-rounder from New Zealand, Mitchell adds a mix of power-hitting and reliable medium-pace bowling like Carse. In the IPL mega auction for IPL 2025, he went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. However, Kiwi management showed trust in him, and he remains part of New Zealand’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad.
Mitchell has impressive stats, scoring 1,411 runs in 66 T20I innings at an average of 26.62 and a strike rate of 139.28. While he was previously part of Chennai Super Kings but wasn’t particularly memorable, his recent stats and performance suggest he could be a valuable addition to Hyderabad’s squad, offering middle-order stability and handy overs with the ball.
3. Gulbadin Naib
Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naib has improved himself recently by playing in international T20 leagues. His exceptional wicket-taking ability makes him an intriguing candidate for Carse’s replacement. Though his bowling speed does not match Carse’s, his batting prowess makes up for it. Naib’s ability to take wickets when necessary and his flexibility in the batting order could give SRH an edge in the middle overs.
Additionally, his medium-paced attack makes him a near-like-for-like replacement for Carse. In his 75 T20 matches, he scored 945 runs with an average of 21 and grabbed 33 wickets in 44 innings.
4. Dwaine Pretorius
South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius is another strong replacement option. His ability to mix slower deliveries with on-pace balls makes him a tricky bowler across different phases of a match. In his 33 games, he took 35 wickets with an economy of 8.28.
Beyond his bowling, Pretorius is a powerful lower-order batter capable of hitting big hits, as his strike rate of 164.15 proved it. He was previously part of Chennai Super Kings now SRH management keeping eye on him as soon as they get confirmation by Carse fitness report.
5. Richard Gleeson
Richard Gleeson may lack as an all-rounder as Carse, but his pace makes him makes a better option to consider. He has been an exceptional bowler in recent years. He has evolved into a lethal fast bowler, able to generate bounce and pace to trouble batters specially in the middle overs.
Gleeson is also considered as death over specialist, because he execute yorkers and deceive batters with well-disguised slower deliveries. He played for Sunrisers Eastern Cape in SA20 2025 was impressive by taking 19 wickets in 16 matches with the economy rate of 8.15 make him an attractive option for SRH.
Who Should Sunrisers Hyderabad Pick as Carse’s Replacement?
With the unavailability of Brydon Carse for IPL 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad might not need consider alternative options but also looking to prioritise a like-for-like replacement or a more batting-oriented approach, each of these five players mentioned above brings unique strengths to the table. It will be interesting to see how Sunrisers Hyderabad’s management addresses this challenge as they look to build a balanced squad for the upcoming season.
