“When War Is Loud, Humanity Must Speak” – India’s Message on Imran Khan

“When War Is Loud, Humanity Must Speak”

Amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, India has once again set an example of humanity. India has once again shown that if forced to choose between war and life, it will always choose life.

Former Pakistan cricket captain and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been in jail in Pakistan for the past few years. Recently, his sister told the media that his health condition is very serious and that he is not being properly taken care of in prison. The Pakistani government strongly rejected her claims, saying that nothing like that is happening.

However, a few days ago, Imran Khan’s lawyer informed the media that the vision in one of his eyes has reduced to just 15%, and his other eye is also at risk. It has been alleged that he is being mistreated in jail. These claims created shockwaves across the cricket world.

Under pressure from international media, some former Pakistani cricketers finally spoke up. Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram requested their government to ensure their safety and proper care.

But the story took a new turn when India’s former legendary cricketers, including Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar, along with 14 other former international players, wrote a letter to the Government of Pakistan. In the letter, they said:

We respectfully urge the Government of Pakistan to ensure that Imran Khan receives: Immediate, adequate and ongoing medical attention from qualified specialists of his choosing… Humane and dignified conditions of detention in line with international standards… Fair and transparent access to legal processes.

This step taken by former Indian cricketers rises above political disputes and highlights humanity. On the other hand, Pakistan once again appears indifferent toward its own people — even toward those who once brought global recognition to the country.

Such behavior from the Pakistani government is not new. During the 1999 Kargil War, when Pakistani soldiers were fighting in militant disguise and losing their lives, Pakistan reportedly refused to accept their dead bodies.

Many believe that the current poor state of Pakistan cricket is also the result of government policies. The government seems to prioritize narrow political interests over public welfare.

It is hoped that the letter from former cricketers will make the government reconsider and ensure better medical treatment for Imran Khan.

India stood for humanity yesterday, stands for humanity today, and will continue to stand for humanity in the future.
